Granola

The Recipe Story:
A batch of this yummy breakfast never lasted long.

Ingredients:
5 c. oatmeal
1 c. margarine
1c. wheat germ
½ c. chopped nuts or sunflower seeds
1 c. raisins (optional)
1 c. brown sugar (or ½ c. honey and ¼ c. sugar)
1 t. salt
½ c. flaked coconut
½ c. water
1 t. vanilla

Directions:
Melt margarine. Add sugar, water, flavoring, salt and stir. Add oatmeal, wheat germ, coconut and nuts. Press into pan.Bake at 325 on greased cookie sheet or sheet cake pan for 30-40 minutes until golden. Watch carefully to be sure it doesn't burn. After it is cool, break into chunks.May stir in raisins after cooling if desired, after cool. Store in tight container. Makes 6 cups of cereal.
